About the Book

Original Publication Date: March 23, 2004

Setting: Twin Cities, MN

What do you get when you have an immortal Viking warrior no one can remember five minutes after he leaves their presence, and a demon princess on the run for her life who is being pursued by one seriously pissed-off demigod?

That would be my life.

It started out simple enough. One night I went to save a woman in trouble. The next thing I knew, the doorway to hell had opened and out stepped Daimons- soul-sucking vampires the likes of which I’d never seen before. Led by the son of Apollo, they are out to end the curse that has banished them all to darkness. The only problem with that is they have to kill Cassandra Peters to do it and if she dies, so dies the sun, the earth and all who dwell here. Life’s just a bowl full of cherries,...

The Hero: Wulf

Wulf is a Viking warrior whose recklessness brought him into contact with Morginne, a powerful Dark-Huntress. She tricked him into trading souls with her. He is the only Dark-Hunter who was never granted an Act of Vengeance. And since he was wrongfully brought over by another Dark-Hunter, his powers are very different from the rest of his brethren. The most curious power of all, is that of amnesia. No human or animal is capable of remembering...

The Story Behind The Story

Kiss of the Night was written while Sherri was staying with her mother in the hospital. The book hit the NYT three days after Sherri had buried her mother. To this day, this book is very bittersweet for her.

Kiss of the Night was the first Dark-Hunter book to hit the print list of the New York Times. It spent a combined total of 27 weeks on bestseller lists. It was also the first of her books to hit the Publisher's Weekly list.

Sherri wrote Kiss of the Night to help readers understand the Apollite/Daimon world and their mindset. She doesn't see them as innately evil, but rather asks the question, "What would you do if you were unfairly cursed to die on your 27th birthday? Would you die docilely or would you fight tooth and nail to live even another day longer?"

Hear it from the Fans

Why does kiss the night go backwards chronologically. In the beginning it repeats some of the night embrace story and then it talks about the mardi gras coming up, all of which happened before the dance with the devil book occurred. It seems like this book should have been read before dance with the devil.

Because that's there the story started. Talon and Wulf were on the phone at the beginning of both books. It's where they both begin. If you read the author's note, Sherri explains that KOTN was originally supposed to be published before DWTD, but given the cliffhanger with Zarek at the end of Night Embrace, she knew fans would want to wait an entire year to find out his fate. Plus had she written it in that order, there are spoilers for DWTD in KOTN. Therefore DWTD had to come first. Just like with TV shows and movie franchises, sometimes scenes from the past have to be shown to fully explain how characters got to where they currently are in the series.

Love Wulf! He's one of my all time faves.

When can we expect KOTN to be available in a special edition hardcover? And Carl, I know you are busy enough... but do you have a Pinterest page for Sherri? :P

What happened to Kat? And whose side is she really on?

shelby, December 20, 2011

Her story is told in Devil May Cry.
