Setting: Ichidian Universe

In the universe where the League is law, most live in fear. We fight back. Welcome to a world where corrupt assassination politics dominate everyone. It’s kill or be killed.

For Caillen Dagan, a defiant soldier of fortune, survival isn’t a right, it’s a brutal daily battle. Moving through the Ichidian universe like a wraith, his brushes with the law and death are legendary. But when an act of rare heroism reveals his hidden birthright, he’s forced into a world much more dangerous and cold-hearted than the bloody streets where he was raised- one of obscene wealth and lethal politics.

Ferocious and determined, Desideria Denaraii serves as an official bodyguard for her queen. Born of questionable genetics, she will do anything to prove herself...

The Hero: Caillen

Irreverent, sarcastic and fun, Caillen believes there are three kinds of people. Those who fight. Those who die. Those who run. He's not dead yet and he's never run from anything a day in his life (hiding doesn't count--that's just smart thinking). A third generation smuggler who flies missions for Syn, Caillan is anything other than what he seems. No one should ever assume they know anything about him.

The Heroine: Desideria

A true Qillaq through and through, Desideria believes that all problems can be settled with a blaster. In her world, a man can only marry a woman if he can defeat her in battle. And since her skills are the best of her tribe, she knows she's destined to grow old alone. But that's all right. She doesn't want anyone who isn't her equal.

The Story Behind The Story

BOS was written when Sherri was 24 to be part of an initial trilogy when she sold Born of Night. The trilogy was supposed to be: Born of Night, Born of Fire and Born of Desire (Born of Shadows). She completed BOD and her editor refused to get back to her for more than two years (her editor never did accept or reject the books). Sherri set the book aside and moved on to the second generation of characters, hoping to sell those as well.

After writing Paradise City (Born of Ice), Sherri began submitting it and it sold a few months later to another publisher (which is why it had to be separated from the other books in the series). Though it was the third book bought, it ended up being the first book published. After both of her first two publishers declined to publish anymore futuristics (even though Sherri's had been bestsellers and won several awards), Sherri put them aside to...

I just finished Born of Shadows. I must say that I love this series. It surprises me every time how good it is because I'm not normally in to Sci-Fi anything. This book was great!
