About the Book

Original Publication Date: October 28, 2003

Setting: Fairbanks, Alaska

Zarek’s Point of View:

Dark-Hunter : A soulless guardian who stands between mankind and those who would see mankind destroyed. Yeah, right. The only part of that Code of Honor I got was eternity and solitude.

Insanity : A condition many say I suffer from after being alone for so long. But I don’t suffer from my insanity-I enjoy every minute of it.

Trust : I can’t trust anyone…not even myself. The only thing I trust in is my ability to do the wrong thing in any situation and to put a hurt on anyone who gets in my way.

Truth : I endured a lifetime as a Roman slave, and 900 years as an exiled Dark-Hunter. Now I’m tired of enduring. I want the truth about what happened the night I was exiled-I...

The Hero: Zarek

Zarek was born the unwanted son of a Greek slave and a Roman senator. Moments after his birth, his mother gave him to a servant with orders to kill the infant. The servant took mercy on the child and took him to his father who had no more use for the baby than his mother had so Zarek became the whipping boy of a noble Roman family. No one knows how he died or why he traded his soul- he keeps it as a well-guarded secret. He trusts no one....

The Story Behind The Story

Zarek was a fun character to try and get past an editor. Ever try pitching a story where the hero is an insane refugee from the "sh*t pits" of Rome?

"It'll be great, trust me," doesn't quite cut it when they have that 'deer in the headlight' look.

That being said, this book is often cited as a fan favorite. (I think it's the scene when he blows up the helicopter for the heck of it that gets people).

Dance with the Devil was written in just under three weeks. Originally, it was supposed to be the fifth book, but after Sherri wrote Night Embrace, she had to write Zarek's story. It came out fast and furious-- just like Zarek.

Hear it from the Fans

This story brought me to tears. Never thought that would happen when reading about tough-as-nails Dark-Hunters. From the moment Zarek came on the scene I liked him for some odd reason. And my intuition didn't fail me. 10/10 for Dance With The Devil.

I read this book years ago on my cell phone and been basically looking for it since on and off. I remember it so well, but just couldn't get the names from my head.. So Google offered no help at all. Finally find it after Facebook suggests me the author's page. The only reason I went looking is because of the picture; Styxx book cover. So haaaaaapy. Imma go read it again. <3
