"Anyone can hate. It costs to love."

The mistress of Apollo, Ryssa is the cause of the curse that now affects the Apollites. The Apollite queen was so jealous of Apollo’s love of his human consort, that she sent out her men to slaughter Ryssa and her son.

Ryssa was twenty-seven when she died and it’s why the Apollites are forbidden to live past their twenty-seventh birthdays.

She was also the older sister of Acheron and Styxx, and Ash mourns her loss to this day. In his human life, she was the only one who offered him kindness.

If he ever has another daughter, he plans to name her after his sister.

Hey I was just wondering if there is any chance that Ryssa will show up again in any future books and cross paths with Acheron and/or Styxx? Yeah I know she's dead and in the underworld but its always possible. I would really like to see that terrible rift between her and Styxx finally closed.

With the exception that she never used physical violence she was almost exactly like her father. How? Her father looked at Acheron but never saw him, he heard Acheron but never listened to him and he judged Acheron but never knew him nor even tried to get to know him. Likewise Ryssa Looked at Styxx but never saw him, she heard Styxx but never listened to him and she Judged stYxx but she never knew him nor bothered to try to get to know him.

To be honest I can not even begin to hate Ryssa, because I remember a time when I misjudged Styxx and thought he was truly this ass who went out of his way to hurt Acheron. Not to mention Styxx kept saying things like "or I shall have you whipped for it." and when you don't know he can read minds....it makes him seem like the most arrogant jerk ever. So when I put myself into Ryssa's position who wanted to fiercely protect Acheron, she does not seem that bad to be honest. She misunderstood Styxx and the circumstances, and with what knowledge she had fiercely defended Acheron. I remember all of the times before reading Styxx where I did not give two craps about what happened to Styxx. It would be hypocritical of me to hate Ryssa for hurting Styxx, when I never cared about Styxx before and actually felt like Styxx was getting his comeuppance when he was being hurt...without realizing his side.

I love her for her treatment of Ash, but loathe her for how she treated Sytxx. I hope that she is still alive somehow, if for no reason other then to face how she treated Styxx.

She loved Acheron but hated Styxx. So I kind of like her for protecting ash but hate her for hurting Styxx all the time.

I liked Ryssa in the book Acheron....but then I read Styxx and I totally changed my mind. I know how it feels to have an elder sibling favor others over you.... so sad...but I'll still give you credit for being nice to my Achimou :)

After reading Styxx, I've come to the realization that I don't like Ryssa all that much. She was great to Acheron but she was horrible to Styxx. She didn't really ever have a real reason to hate him but she did...and she made his life hell.

I have no problem with hating Ryssa for what she had done to Styxx but to see her insight on the matter would be most interesting. It would be nice to have her side of the story.

I can't stand her. I understand she was trying to help Acheron but every time she tried something bad happened and as to how she treated Styxxx....tssss, not good, not good at all. Spoiled little princess she was with no understanding of the world she lived

Is there a reason why Ryssa hates Styxx so bitterly? She seemed to be a nice character in Acheron. .... Did I miss something in the novel which explains this

She's the same character in both books. Read Acheron again and you will see that she was always jealous of Styxx and reacted badly to him all the time. She also painted herself as a victim in all things and is very self-absorbed. As with all families who have more than two children, sibs fight and many times for no real reason. Jealousy is an ugly thing and she was very jealous of Styxx, but felt very sorry for Acheron so she petted him while cursing the brother she thought got everything she wanted.
