I don’t understand why Nick doesn’t get over being mad at Acheron. What’s up with that? (Contains Spoilers)

There are a couple of things to remember with Nick. 1) He’s extremely justified in his anger at Ash. Ash does have the power to have saved Cherise and he could have brought her back, as he’s done others. Ash was his best friend and he knew how important Cherise was to Nick. Had Ash loved her the way he claimed, then he would have kept her from dying so horribly. Or he would have brought her back. Nick isn’t being ridiculous with that accusation. He’s right.

Most of all, Nick knows he should have protected his mother. He acknowledges his own role in her death and he hates himself for it, too.

2) The most important thing to remember is that Nick was never human. Nick is, at his core, an instrument of primary evil. Hatred comes naturally to him. The fact that he’s capable of love at all is nothing short of a miracle, and all of this is owed to Cherise. Without her, he would have been a monster a lot sooner. Forgiveness isn’t in his genetic code.

That being said, he is at war with himself. He has that tiny core of goodness created by his mother that wants to forgive Ash; that wants to be loved. But. and this is a big but, the evil in him is absolutely supreme. He basically has a split personality, and he’s trying to find a way to make the two parts of him coexist without driving him insane (which would then cause him to end the world).

He’s not being whiny or immature. The fact he hasn’t destroyed Acheron shows just how strong he is. Not to mention, I had someone I loved more than my life- the one human being I depended on- ripped violently out of my life when I was around Nick’s age. From personal experience, I can promise you that you don’t get over it quickly. It’s been twenty-eight years and to this day when I think about it, I get angry all over again, and I still want vengeance. It’s a hard thing to let go of. It’s even harder to live with it.

Will they become friends again? I don’t know. It’s why I’m writing the books :) What I do know is that Nick is trying to repair the past. He’s trying to save everyone: His mother, Acheron and himself. Most of all, he’s trying to save the world.

Let’s hope he wins.
