Absolutely not. I intentionally write each book with the assumption that it will be in the hands of someone who has never read any of the others. No one should ever feel lost whether they start with book 1 or 21. That being said, I also use new ways to give old information and I give new information with the old so that those who have followed from book 1 won’t get bored with having read the same definition 20+ times.

That being said, if you start in the middle of the series, you will have some spoilers and there are inside jokes that you might not get such as the fact that Julian always has a dented fender. It won’t detract from the reading experience, but if you’ve read Julian’s book, you will realize the poor man still can’t drive and will hopefully laugh at his ongoing attempts to fit in with modern man.
